Does anyone have a wonderful biscotti recipe? In particular, I'm looking for the anise flavored biscotti with almonds and a chocolate biscotti recipe. Other suggestions would be welcome. I'm looking for delicious, tried and true recipes.

Thanks for your help.

Foodfan, I really love these things, too much probably.

3/4 cup butter
1 cup sugar
4 eggs
3 cups flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp anise seeds
1 cup almonds

Heat oven to 350.

Grease baking sheet.

Cream butter and sugar till light and fluffy. Add eggs until well mixed. Mix together the remaining dry ingredients except almonds. Add mixed dry ingredients to butter mixture. Stir in almonds.

Form into two loaves 1 1/2" wide. Bake 25 - 30 minutes. Remove from oven.

Raise oven temp to 375.

Cut loaves diagonally 3/4". Place, cut sides down, on cookie sheet and return to oven. Bake 10 minutes more until toasted and crisp.

Super good.

Chris

Thanks, Chris. I've copied and pasted the recipe and will give it a try.

Just this week on a blog I saw a home-based baker advertising selling her chocolate-dipped mandelbroit for 18 pieces for $35 (plus shipping). Sheesh!

How much better to whip up a batch yourself - cheaper, makes your kitchen smell delicious, and fun to do! :D And it would be another opportunity to get kids to participate in the kitchen, too.

This is how my mother wrote out her recipe. Think you had to watch her make them.

Mandel Bread

½ lb margarine
1 ½ c sugar
4 eggs
2 t almond extract
2 t vanilla
4 c flour
½ t baking soda
2 t baking powder
1 cup nuts

Cream the margarine, add the sugar, mixing well. Add the eggs, flavors and then slowly add the dry ingredients. Divide into logs and bake at 350° for 20 minutes, slice and then dry in hot oven.

Sometimes she'd take half of the batter and add chocolate powder. She used almonds for her nuts which are Mandel. I don't remember if she used whole almonds or chopped.

I bet you could add a little anise flavoring or even seeds.

I haven't had them in years as my mother doesn't like to cook anymore.

Maybe I should make them for her.
